“Autumn Wonder” Japanese Maple Tree
Autumn color climax, Portland Japanese Garden
Autumn Wonder. Portland’s Japanese Garden is a magical place during any season. It is transcendent in autumn, truly magical. During the fall season of 2021, I was especially fortunate to incorporate the apex of fall color at the Japanese garden into an epic nature photography day.
I woke early to take my wife to the airport and on the way home, stunning clouds began to form, so I grabbed my camera gear, which I i had packed the night before. I beelined to Smith Rock State Park where I enjoyed the most stunning sunrise I’ve ever seen there.
Next I headed to the Columbia River Gorge where I shot Multnomah Falls at the peak of fall color. Then I zipped into Portland and visited the vaunted Portland Japanese Garden where I shot “Autumn Wonder”. It was the kind of day in Portland that nature photographers dream about. Windless and overcast, allowing for tack sharp detail and rich warm colors, all at the peak of fall color in one of the most magical places possible.
I could randomly point my camera almost anywhere and capture something beautiful. I plan to release several more fine art nature photographs from that day at the portland Japanese. I’m especially excited about the above image of the Moon Bridge, one of the iconic features at the PDX Japanese Garden. Texture, color, leading lines, this new image has it all. Thanks for Visiting,
Mike
