Benham Falls in Winter
Deschutes River Trail, Bend, Oregon
Benham Falls is located off of Forest Service Road 41, south of Bend, Oregon on the famed Deschutes River Trail. Benham is less of a waterfall and more of a series of dramatic rapids yet is still quite remarkable. It is very rugged, has a great sound and and lots of seasonal variation. Winter access to Benham is always sketchy. FS 41 is NOT maintained in winter so travelers access the area at their own risk.
The Deschutes River Trail is a wonderful resource for hikers, bikers and paddlers in the Bend area. Deschutes River Trail access points with parking areas include, Meadow Camp, Lava Island, Big Eddy, Aspen Camp, Dillon Falls, Slough, and Benham . While Benham is the last marked access point along the Deschutes River Trail, the trail continues all the way to Sunriver Resort.
and 3. Benham Falls, which is especially attractive in autumn and winter during early season snow falls.
I captured this beauful Oregon snow photo with my daugter Emma in tow, when she could barely get her little legs above the snow level! She was a trooper and the sticky falling snow as well as worderful icicles and enchanting water patterns of the Deschutes make for a magical winter photograph!
