Broken Top Fine Art Photograph
Wildflowers Flourish along an alpine spring in the Three Sisters Wilderness
This beautiful new Broken Top fine art photograph was captured high in the Three Sisters Wilderness Area. I’ve had a good landscape photography season on Broken Top and was fortunate to capture some great wildflowers under excellent lighting conditions. There are countless things that can go wrong with a landscape photography season. Drought, hail storms, forest fires, insect invasions, early freezes, windstorms, have all conspired to ruin seasons for my landscape photos in the past.
Thankfully, the 2022 spring wildflower season (which occurs in late summer!) on Broken Top was abundant with natural color.
The infamously rugged 370 road which starts at the parking lot for Todd Lake, was opened a bit later than usual this year because of heavy late season snowfalls in the Three Sisters Wilderness. The late opening season made me pessimistic for a great landscape photography season. Fortunately, I was pleasantly surprised. The small alpine spring which hydrates the wildflowers in this scene has heavy exposure to the sun, which cause wildflowers to start and finish blooming early in the year. Last winter’s snowfall delayed wildflower season more than I anticipated and the little stream which I have hoped to photograph for the last several season was at peak bloom, and I was thrilled!
Compositionally, I love this fine art print. The watery “V” , laden with Pink Monkeyflowers, yellow Monkeyflowers, Arnica, queen Anne’s Lace and a smattering of Red Indian Paintbrush form a visual funnel, pulling the viewer upward toward the crowny Thorn of Broken Top and a summery sky decorated with fluffy clouds. This combination of color and combination make for a gorgeous new Broken Top fine art photgraph which will transport viewers to this beautiful location on one of the prettiest days of the year!
