Mt Hood Wilderness Area

At 11,249 feet of elevation, Mt Hood is the tallest mountain in Oregon. Referred to as Wy’east by native Americans, it was named Mt Hood by William Broughton, a member of the British Captain George Vancouver expedition in 1792, after the British Admiral, Lord Samuel Hood.

Because of its vertical rise above surrounding terrain photogenic shape and its proximity to Oregon’s largest city, Portland, Mt Hood is the subject of countless fine art nature photographs. This new Mt Hood landscape photograph is arguably the best I’ve ever captured! I’ve captured many Mt Hood landscape photos in the past that I’m proud of, including, Mt Hood from Parkdale, Oregon, Mt Hood Wildflowers, and Mt hood Wilderness Fine art print  but this may make a better nature photograph than any of the others.

I recently captured this stunning new Mt Hood Nature print while on a backpacking trip with my amazing wife, Debbie. The trip was part of a belated birthday journey for Debbie. She’d never backpacked on Mt Hood and I knew what I thought would be a great camping spot.

I’d been to this spot previously and knew it was beautiful but wasn’t certain about the timing for wildflowers. Well, the timing was exceptional! The surrounding meadows were brimming with wildflowers and I even enjoyed a could largely windless sunsets, which is a rarity that high on Mt Hood.

I’m absolutely thrilled with the composition of this new landscape photograph! The delicate alpine stream gently wending its way between volcanic boulders festooned with vibrant Yellow monkeyflowers, pink monkeyflowers, Purple lupines and red Indian paintbrush leads the eye through the scene to the star of the scene, Mt Hood being bathed in warm sunset light!  I’ll soon have this image available as a fine art landscape print for sale.
