Mt Hood Wildflower Cascades
Mt Hood Wildflower Cascades
Mt Hood Wilderness Area
The magical Mt Hood Wilderness covers over 64,000 acres and encircles the 11,240 foot tall Mt. Hood. The wilderness Area includes 11 active glaciers, and the iconic 48 mile longTimberline Trail. The wilderness was designated by the United States Congress in 1964 and signed into law by President Johnson. Mt Hood was named after British Lord Samuel Hood in 1792 when the mountain was first spotted by Europeans.
Oregon is blessed with photogenic mountains, including Mt Jefferson, Mt Bachelor, Broken Top, the Three Sisters, The Wallowa Mountains, and the rocky rim of Crater Lake National Park
But no Oregon mountain rises above Mt Hood. Hood is photogenic from any angle and the fact that much of the terrain surrounding it is near sea level gives the mountain more vertical rise making for awe-inspiring views. In addition to an amazing array of alpine wildflowers, this new fine art print captures some of Hood’s landmark features. The dark ridge right of center, above tree line on the mountain is part of Cathedral Ridge which has a winery named after it which is located in the scenic town of Hood River. The snowfield to the right of Cathedral Ridge is the Sandy Glacier which sadly has lost nearly half of its volume in the last 100 years due to global warming.Sandy Glacier is the source of the Muddy Fork of the Sandy River and the location of what is likely the largest complex of Glacial caves in the lower 48 states.
