Phlox longifolia, Spring Basin Wilderness, Oregon 

I am often rewarded by being aware of my surroundings while scouting for new landscape photography compositions. During the spring of 2023, I undertook a mission to photograph Oregon’s elusive and beautiful Hedgehog Cactus in full bloom. I initiated my efforts in Eastern Oregon’s Sprint Basin Wilderness. I found plenty of Hedgehog cactus but none were in bloom. I also found lots of Phlox longifolia( Longleaf Phlox) which were also pre-peak. Unfulfilled, I returned a week later and found stunning groupings of Hedgehog Cactus and the elegant grouping of Phlox you see in the new fine art photograph.
